Polyhedral: A Revolutionary Approach to Refrigeration

LAFA Industrial Design College Unveils Modular, Rotatable Refrigerator

The inspiration behind Polyhedral lies in the desire to create a refrigerator that is not confined to the kitchen but can adapt to any space environment. The design team at LAFA Industrial Design College envisioned a polyhedron that can rotate and be arranged in a modular combination to meet storage and freshness needs.

What sets Polyhedral apart from other refrigerators is its unique triad function: it serves as a wine storage, ice maker, and refrigerator. The two main modules, the wine cabinet and the refrigerator, can be adjusted according to the indoor decor and are combined through magnetic adsorption. This flexibility is a departure from the fixed mode of existing built-in refrigerators. Moreover, the modular refrigerators can be customized according to user demand, providing more choices.

The refrigerator is realized with a fine metal wire drawing panel, which ensures a better match with the home environment. With an overall size of 1034 * 500 * 1916 mm, Polyhedral offers large capacity for convenience. The refrigerator is designed for easy operation with an operation panel and digital display.

The design process, which began in January 2020 in Shenyang, Liaoning province in China, involved extensive market research and analysis. The design team, consisting of Weizhi Cao, Anzhen Zhang, Shan Ni, Hongrui Qi, Xudong Zhang, Shuwen Zheng, Hong Cheng, and Donglin Yang, conducted surveys and experiments to bring this innovative idea to life.

The main challenge in designing Polyhedral was to change the user's perception of the refrigerator from a fixed cabinet to a flexible, adaptable appliance. The innovative idea of combining a wine cabinet and refrigerator required extensive market research and a shift in thinking. The result is a polyhedron refrigerator with a triad function that can be customized according to user demand and choice.

Polyhedral's innovative design has not gone unnoticed. It was awarded the Silver A' Home Appliances Design Award in 2020, a prestigious accolade given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. This award is a testament to the creative and technical prowess of the design team at LAFA Industrial Design College.
